Tower ramps output of ViTi’s 0.35-micron CMOS image sensors

October 18, 2007 – Israeli foundry Tower Semiconductor says it has begun volume manufacturing of image sensor products for Taiwan’s Vision Integration Technology Inc. (ViTi), with output of the home security and closed-circuit TV sensors being done at its Fab 1 manufacturing site using 0.35-micron processes.

ViTi’s target market is security and surveillance systems, primarily in China and Europe. The firms pointed to iSuppli estimates of a $1.25B market by 2011 for semiconductors used in such systems.

“It has been a rewarding experience to have both parties bring their expertise to the table,” notably ViTi’s experience and knowledge in the security applications and Tower’s technology for low noise and light sensitivity in dark environment, said Jonathan Gendler, director of CIS & NVM customer management at Tower, in a statement.
