SunPower, Jiawei SolarChina ink silicon supply deal

December 10, 2007 – SunPower and Jiawei SolarChina, an affiliate of the firm’s solar panel assembly partner, have signed a five-year supply deal for monocrystalline silicon ingots and silicon wafers, to support Jiawei’s expansion plans.

Under the deal, SunPower will purchase silicon ingots and wafers to satisfy production requirements for >900MW of solar cell production, based on expected silicon utilization during the period of the deal. The agreement helps support Jiawei’s plans to scale operations to 200 ingot pullers in Beijing.

“Our partnership with Jiawei will diversify our upstream supply chain” as SunPower scales and expands its silicon supply base into China, said company COO PM Pai, in a statement.
