Korean firm selects Qualcomm MEMS display technology

January 8, 2008 — Qualcomm MEMS Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM), has announced that KT Freetel one of Korea’s largest operators and the country’s first WCDMA wireless operator, has selected Qualcomm’s MEMS-based mirasol display technology for its SHOW WCDMA Monitoring Systems.

KTF’s SHOW Monitoring System uses 3G WCDMA to transmit live video from a SHOW camera device to a designated mobile phone and is ideal for commercial asset monitoring or any number of uses in the consumer or enterprise markets, the company said in a news release.

Video streams directly to the handset with a push of a button, enabling SHOW owners to view live video coming from the locations of their choice. The SHOW monitoring device also is equipped with motion sensors that send SMS alerts to the handset when there is physical activity near the base. Products will be introduced in 2008 in the Korean market, with other locations to be announced. KTF will announce distribution with retail partners at a later date.
