Nippon Kayaku acquires MicroChem, supplier of chemicals for MEMS production

February 11, 2008 — MicroChem Corp. of Newton, Mass., has been acquired by longtime sales and development partner Nippon Kayaku Co. Ltd. of Tokyo, a $1 billion diversified chemical company and global supplier of epoxy resins for microelectronic applications.

The acquisition enables Nippon Kayaku to leverage its leading market position in epoxy materials with MicroChem’s strong position as a value-added product manufacturer in emerging technology markets particularly with its epoxy based photoimageable resist products, the company said in a news release.

The companies have been working together since 2002 on a number of product development programs.

MicroChem will become part of Nippon Kayaku’s Functional Chemicals Group and will be operated as a wholly owned subsidiary. The company has named Jeremiah Cole president and chief executive.
