SunPower inks supply deal in China

Feb. 15, 2008 – SunPower says it has signed a multiyear agreement to purchase polysilicon from Jupiter, a sales office of China’s Qingdao DTK Industries, in increasing volumes from 2010-2016 to manufacture >3GW of solar cells (based on SunPower’s expected silicon utilization). As part of the deal, Jupiter will build a new polysilicon manufacturing facility in Qingdao, China.

“SunPower is pleased to partner with Jupiter, Qingdao DTK as it extends its expertise into polysilicon manufacturing,” said Tom Werner, CEO of SunPower, in a statement. “Jupiter, Qingdao DTK will provide polysilicon to our ingot suppliers, supporting our drive to scale rapidly and cost-effectively to meet the demand for our high-efficiency solar systems.”
