Samsung Group plans to spend between 26-28T won (US $26.13-28.15B) in 2008, up from 23T won ($23.12B) in 2007, to help bolster semiconductor and flat-panel business for its electronics division locked in a “survival game” with Japanese rivals, according to the Korea Times, citing a “ranking group official” saying details could come in mid-May.
More than a third of that spending will come from Samsung Electronics, seen spending 7T won ($7.04B) for memory and 3.7T ($3.72B) for flat-screen operations. The division has already committed 50.5B won ($) for a new handset plant in Vietnam.
