IM Flash hiring 200 in Utah, spending $1.5B on flash fabs

June 22, 2011 – IM Flash Technologies, the Micron-Intel JV, plans to expand its NAND flash operations in Lehi, UT, adding 200 positions starting in 2012 in addition to its current 1400 employees. The company says it expects to spend an additional $1.4B in wages alone over the next decade.

The company also is prepping a $1.5B investment in its Lehi NAND flash facilities, according to local reports, which indicated about 10% of the IM Flash plant needs to be upgraded.

The move comes after the Utah state government voted for a $45.9M tax incentive for the company — almost a third of the expected $153M in new tax revenue to be collected from the IM Flash expansion over the next decade. Nearly $2B of the state’s 2010 exports of $13.6B came from computers/electronics, most of that from the IM Flash plant, according to the Utah Governor
