January 11, 2012 – BUSINESS WIRE — Semiconductor maker Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq:RMTR) shipped 50,000 initial low-energy, custom, nonvolatile ferroelectric random access memory (F-RAM or FRAM) devices built on its new IBM semiconductor manufacturing line in Burlington, VT.
Ramtron expects to ship approximately 1.9 million F-RAM devices in the coming quarters, and potentially significantly higher volumes in the future. This is the first commercial shipment of 3-volt F-RAM device built on the IBM line in VT, noted Eric Balzer, Ramtron’s CEO, adding that the company has worked on improving product yield at the new line, which also produces standard F-RAM components for Ramtron. Ramtron has sold nearly a half-billion F-RAM devices in total.

The Ramtron-designed custom F-RAM devices are destined for use in generic printer cartridges. Ramtron F-RAM products combine the high-speed performance of random access memory (RAM) with high-integrity nonvolatile data storage, or the ability to save information without power.
