February 8, 2012 — Handset products dominate compound semiconductor revenue, but microelectronics companies focus development on high-performance, high-frequency applications where volumes are lower and products are differentiated by performance, reports Strategy Analytics. These markets include defense, test and measurement, very small aperture terminal (VSAT), and microwave radios.
"In addition to military applications, which require high-frequency broadband performance, there is a growing number of VSAT and microwave radio applications operating at higher frequencies," noted Asif Anwar, director, Strategy Analytics Strategic Technologies Practice.
