ChaoLogix introduces ChaoSecure technology to boost semiconductor chip security

ChaoLogix, Inc., a semiconductor technology provider focused on developing embedded security and low-power design intellectual property, today introduced ChaoSecure technology that deters side channel attacks on semiconductor chips and contributes a superior layer of security compared to existing solutions.

Data protection is a major concern in the digital marketplace. Mobile devices containing critical data are especially vulnerable to attacks exploiting data leaked through their power and electromagnetic signatures. ChaoSecure protects against this vulnerability by addressing the cause of the leakage at the source, rather than dealing with the symptoms.

ChaoLogix’s ChaoSecure technology is a hardware-based solution designed to provide optimal performance at the nexus of security and power. Proven in silicon and validated by an independent security lab, ChaoSecure is a secure standard cell library that can be easily integrated into an existing integrated circuit (IC) — making it the ideal security solution in terms of cost and performance for designing complex applications ranging from smart cards to smart phones.

“Data protection is a critical issue to the technology industry and our mobile information society,” said ChaoLogix CEO Brian Kelly. “ChaoSecure is a cutting-edge solution that addresses multiple security concerns related to side channel attacks. ChaoSecure provides maximum levels of security at minimum levels of power consumption, and we are excited to be working with several prominent IC manufacturers to help protect their next generation of chips.”

ChaoSecure is one of multiple technologies under development by ChaoLogix, which is backed by more than $5 million in recent Series C financing from Florida-based private investors and the company’s original investor pool. Led by successful business and semiconductor industry veterans including Kelly and Senior Vice President of Business Development Chowdary Yanamadala, ChaoLogix is based in Gainesville, Fla., with offices in Jacksonville, Fla., and engineering operations in Melbourne, Fla.

Optimizing performance, power and security

Specifically, by arresting data leakage at the source, ChaoSecure provides a strong, integrated solution to protect against Electromagnetic (DEMA) and Differential Power Analysis (DPA) attacks. ChaoLogix has developed IC techniques that feature both ChaoSecure and ChaoLogix’s proprietary low-power technology, resulting in solutions that optimize performance, power and security.

ChaoSecure technology can be integrated into almost any IC using standard design tools and fabrication technology. ICs incorporating ChaoSecure can be built and fully validated using today’s standard fabrication, assembly and test processes. These circuits may incorporate standard logic, memory and the ChaoSecure core — all on the same device.

ChaoLogix has verified in silicon that ChaoSecure has intrinsic power dissipation properties that provide an inherent, efficient hardware-based immunity to side channel analysis attacks. DPA/DEMA Side Channel analysis is today’s prominent tool for deducing encryption keys, exposing valuable data to theft. ChaoSecure solves this problem by attacking the source of data leakage through power consumption.

ChaoLogix offers ChaoSecure in the form of a standard cell technology library. A crypto engine can be targeted to use the ChaoSecure technology library to incorporate intrinsic protection against side channel analysis attacks. ChaoSecure technology is easy to incorporate in any crypto engine design and does not require modifications to the logic.
