03/01/2004  (March 01, 2004) San Jose, Calif.—Worldwide sales of semiconductors rose 26.6 percent year-over-year to $15.5 billion in January 2004, from the $12.28 billion recorded in January 2003. Sales also recorded a typical month-over-month decrease in January 2004 of 3 percent from December 2003, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today.

His startup company aims to prove that theory right. eMembrane Inc. has developed a technology to graft nanoscale filaments onto a polymer surface. Those filaments can then be customized to bind to specific targets as they wash across the surface – much like a hairbrush captures hair in its bristles.

Acorn, a Tucson, Ariz.-based HVAC expert, testified in the ongoing cleanroom cancer trial that IBM Corp.'s disk drive plant in San Jose was adequately ventilated, contradicting prior testimony from a plaintiff witness who said the entire facility was negatively pressurized, causing controlled environments to be starved of fresh air.
