SiliconPipe Secures Full Technology License

08/23/2006  Joe Fjelstad, CEO and co-founder of SiliconPipe, announced that the company has signed a use license agreement for its entire technology portfolio. The licensee that, for business reasons, remains unnamed, gains access to SiliconPipe's interconnect, substrate, IC packaging, connector, socket, and other technologies. This is the first full use agreement for the company, said Fjelstad.

Analyst: Don't use GDP to forecast the IC industry

AMD Opens R&D Center in Shanghai

08/23/2006  AMD opened its multi-million dollar R&D facility at the Zhang Jiang technology complex in Shanghai, China. AMD plans to employ more than a hundred workers at the design facility. Partnerships and customer collaborations through the SRDC facility are part of AMD's corporate strategy to invest in China, said Dirk Meyer, president and COO of AMD.

Sirenza to Acquire Micro Linear

08/23/2006  Sirenza Microdevices, Inc., signed a definitive agreement to acquire Micro Linear Corp., a wireless IC semiconductor company. Micro Linear, which employs about 40 people, will join Sirenza's SMDI business segment. Sirenza supplies radio frequency (RF) components from facilities in the U.S., Germany, and China.

RoHS Troubles Affect Taiwan Industry

08/22/2006  Integrated Service Technology (IST), a test and analysis lab in Taiwan, estimates four or five of Taiwan's electronics companies have been disqualified for business with the European Union (E.U.) by the E.U.'s RoHS Directive. The company also stated that the disqualified businesses were fined for failed products shipped to the E.U. Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that it received no information regarding RoHS disqualification cases.

Chip biz bumps Wacker Chemie 2Q results

U.S. Orders Chips for Passports

08/21/2006  Infineon Technologies, a German company, received a multi-million piece purchase order from the U.S. government for highly-secure ICs to go into the U.S. electronic passports. The passports include a chip in the cover that stores personal information, as well as a verification photo. The passports are constructed by a U.S. entity called the Government Printing Office.
