Semi Sales Reach 2000 Industry High

San Jose, California–Oct. 4, 2000–Worldwide semiconductor sales reached an industry high of $18.19 billion for August 2000, according to a Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) global sales report released on Oct. 3. This is an increase from the $11.91 billion reached in August 2000, and represents a 52.7% year-over-year growth in chip sales.

“We are confident the industry will reach our forecast of 31% growth for 2000, once we tally sales for the final months of this year,” says George Scalise, president of SIA.

The increase in semiconductor sales was apparent in all geographical regions with the wired, wireless, and Internet infrastructure markets experiencing the largest growth in demand. Asia Pacific’s market increased 60.2%, while Japan’s market grew 53.7% with respect to last year. The Americas market moved up 50.3%, and Europe’s sales grew 46.6%.
