Hitachi shuffling chip business

October 23, 2003 – Hitachi Ltd. plans to reorganize two of its chip equipment and inspection subsidiaries, according to the Kyodo News.

The plan is to sell Hitachi Electronics Engineering Co., which makes chip manufacturing and quality inspection equipment, to wholly-owned subsidiary Hitachi High-Technologies Corp., which also produces quality inspection equipment, by next spring pending a third-party review.

The reorg will concentrate Hitachi’s group resources on chip-related equipment which are currently spread various divisions, according to Hiromi Kuwahara, senior managing director.
