4Wave wins NIST grant for optical chips

September 16, 2003 – 4Wave, Sterling, VA, a developer of thin-film deposition technologies, has won a $1.97 million grant to develop optical chips. The money was awarded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) advanced technology program.

4Wave is working on a four-channel miniature optical filter chip for use as a coarse-wave division multiplexer in 10Gb Ethernet transceivers, using the company’s “biased target ion beam” deposition technique.
