Intel snaps up networking chip designer

July 9, 2003 – Intel has acquried Vancouver-based West Bay Semiconductor, with terms of the deal undisclosed. Intel plans to combine West Bay’s high-density design with its 90nm process, broadening the company’s 2.5-Gbps chip portfolio. West Bay works on chips used in synchronous optical networking/synchronous digital hierarchy (SONET/SDH)-based optical networks.
