Jan. 30, 2003 – Mountain View, CA – A US appeals court has overturned a jury finding that Rambus Inc. hid patent applications from industry groups as they set standards for high-speed memory chips.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit threw out the fraud ruling, saying Rambus, a memory-chip designer, didn’t breach its disclosure duty while participating in a committee that set the standards.

Mike Crawford, an analyst for B. Riley & Co., said the Appeals Court ruling lifts the “specter of fraud” from Rambus, and gives the company a better shot at pursuing royalty claims against chipmakers who now incorporate its technology in their products, reported Dow Jones.

Infineon said it would seek a court rehearing in the case.
