Fuji Photo to buy 50% equity stake in Planar Solutions

November 29, 2005 – Fuji Photo Film Co. said yesterday it will acquire a 50% equity stake in Planar Solutions LLC of the US, which produces materials used in wafer polishing, for about US$17 million, according to Jiji Press.

Fuji Photo will acquire the stake from Arch Chemicals Inc. of the United States. The transaction will take place tomorrow. Acquisition of Planar Solutions is Fuji Photo’s latest efforts to bolster its semiconductor materials and related businesses, company officials said.

Adrian, MI-based Planar Solutions was set up in 2000 by Arch Chemicals and the Wacker Chemie AG group of Germany on an equal footing. The joint venture produces CMP slurries, which are used to polish wafers in semiconductor production. It posted 25.8 million dollars in sales in 2004.
