Dai Nippon Printing to build new display film plant

October 7, 2005 – Dai Nippon Printing Co. will build a new plant in western Japan to produce antireflection films for liquid crystal displays and plasma displays, the firm has said, according to JiJi Press. The firm will invest a total of about 15 billion yen (US$132.5 million) in the plant over three years. Dai Nippon Printing will make the move amid growing demand for LCD and plasma display television sets.

The plant, to be built in Mihara, Hiroshima Prefecture, will start operating in October 2006 with a monthly production capacity of 5 million sq. m. of film. The monthly capacity will be raised to 10 million sq. m. by March 2008.

Currently, the company has a plant capable of making up to 8 million sq. m. of antireflection films a month in the western Japan city of Okayama. Dai Nippon Printing expects its antireflection film sales will reach 70 billion yen in fiscal 2007 that ends in March 2008.
