Nanotec Systems unveils slurry with 5nm diamonds

June 3, 2005 – Nanotec Systems, a developer of lubricants and polishing agents made of ultrafine metal particles, has created a type of slurry that contains diamonds 5nm in dia. for polishing silicon wafers, special metals, and lenses. The slurry can also be used to produce water repellent.

Existing diamond slurries contain diamonds with diameters at the micron level, about 1000 times larger than those found in Nanotec’s new product.

The company has developed a technique for generating fine bubbles in liquid with ultrasonic waves, and then using the energy when the bubbles explode to mix diamond particles with ultrapure water.
