January 28, 2004 – Intel Corp. and AMD are reportedly getting ready to cut prices on microchips by as much as 35%. According to a Reuters story, Susquehannah Financial Group analyst Tai Nguyen cited sources saying Intel would cut prices for its new line of Pentium 4 processors, code-named “Prescott,” running at 3.0-3.4GHz.
AMD disputed the report, which indicated it would cut prices on its Athlon XP chips by 17%, saying the company has no plans for a price cut next week and doesn’t disclose price changes in advance.
