December 7, 2007 – Fab construction firm M+W Zander says it has received a $400M contract to design and build an advanced semiconductor fab in China, for an undisclosed customer — but signs point to one big chipmaker in particular.
The customer requesting the site in Dalian, with around 20,000 sq. m of cleanroom space, was not disclosed, though this northeast coastal city is where Intel is establishing its proposed $2.5B Fab 68. The groundbreaking date cited by M+W Zander is the same as Intel’s Fab 68 groundbreaking in September, and M+W Zander’s proposed construction completion of 2Q09 lines up with Fab 68’s anticipated opening in 2010.
