Qimonda planning memory dev center in China

August 7, 2007 – Qimonda AG plans to set up a new memory products development center in Suzhou, China, adding facilities at its existing site for memory IC assembly/testing operations.

The Qimonda Memory Products Development Center (Suzhou) Co. Ltd., an independent entity with about $20 million in initial investment, will complement Qimonda’s existing development center in Xian, while also focusing on full product development including product specification, circuit design and application test for computing and consumer memories, the company noted. Development activities are planned to start in October, with a target of 200 employees in five years.

Kin Wah Loh, president/CEO of Qimonda, said he expects “fruitful synergies” with the Suzhou backend operations by sharing infrastructure, central functions, and test equipment, resulting in reduced costs.
