August 14, 2007 – Scotland’s Semefab Ltd. says it has acquired the building next to its Fab 1 and Fab 2 operations, as part of an expansion phase to create 3000 sq. m of new cleanroom floorspace for MEMS frontend processing, as well as new office space for increased personnel. The new “Fab 3” site is scheduled to be operational by Jan. 2009.
Semefab, which obtained GBP 6.6M in UK government funds in Nov. 2006 (matched by internal money) to support its micro- and nanotechnology wafer fab operations, has already expanded its seven-year-old Fab 2 by nearly a third, and is now tooling up with MEMS fabrication equipment targeting a Feb. 2008 rampup.
