August 6, 2007 – Rexchip Electronics Corp., the DRAM joint venture between Taiwan’s PowerChip Semiconductor Corp. and Japan’s Elpida Memory Inc., has started pilot production and aims to ramp output to 30,000 (300mm) WPM by year’s end, using 70nm process technologies, notes the Taiwan Economic News.
The report notes that the JV aims to raise output to 60,000 WPM in 1H08. PowerChip execs are planning a 10% increase in DRAM bit density in 3Q, thanks to the ramp of Rexchip.
The addition of Rexchip’s ramp brings combined total capacity from all three entities to about 250,000 WPM, for a market-leading >30% DRAM market share, the paper noted.
