June 2, 2011 — Test Advantage, a Boston Semi Equipment Group (BSE Group) company, acquired Philippines-based Microstats LLC, a hardware repair center for automated test equipment (ATE). Adding Microstats’ products and customer base to Test Advantage will expand the company’s back-end semiconductor presence.

The current Microstats business in Calamba, Philippines will be integrated with the Test Advantage business. Going forward, it will focus on ATE hardware repair for Test Advantage’s customers. Frank Sumner will continue in his role as General Manager of the Philippines operations.

Microstats has been a Test Advantage partner for a while, said Doug Elder, president and CEO of the BSE Group, parent company of Test Advantage, adding that they went forward with the acquisition based on Microstats’ high-quality service reputation and repair offerings. With the addition, Test Advantage can "extend full repair and warranty services" to ATE customers, noted Colin Scholefield, EVP, BSE Group, who anticipates growing demand for "alternative ATE repair, electronics repair and field services."

The Philippines location will serve the company’s Asian customer base.

BSE recently acquired a secondary equipment business, Asia Tech Corporation, and grew the AZ-based frontend semiconductor leasing, sales, repositioning and servicing company.
