ESI Mourns Passing of Former VP, Laser Technology Inventor

Swenson was semi-retired from ESI, serving as a consultant to the company’s Interconnect and Micro-Machining business unit. He began his tenure with ESI as applications engineer, then became manager of Technical Services, and then product manager in the early 1970s. In the mid 1970s, he joined forces with Bell Telephone Labs and pioneered the laser redundancy process, which has dramatically increased production yields for manufacturers of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) devices. Today, virtually all semiconductor memory manufacturers rely on laser repair of redundant memory for production of memory chips.

(February 1, 2008) Schaumburg, IL — Motorola Inc. has announced it is exploring the structural and strategic realignment of its businesses to better equip its Mobile Devices business. The company’s alternatives may include the separation of Mobile Devices from its other businesses in order to permit each business to grow and better serve its customers.
