Competitiveness Separates Winners from Losers in 2007 Semiconductor Market

Case in point is the world’s largest semiconductor supplier, the US’s Intel Corp., whose chip revenue is expected to rise 7.7 percent in 2007 to reach $33.97 billion in 2007, up from $31.5 billion in 2006, according to iSuppli’s preliminary ranking. Intel exceeded the overall semiconductor industry growth rate of 4.1 percent in 2007 and massively outperformed its PC microprocessor rival, the US’s Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), whose sales are expected to decline by 22.7 percent for the year.

(November 29, 2007) BANGALORE, India — AMD has announced the opening of a new 52,000-square-foot silicon design and platform R&D facility in Bangalore to accommodate a rising number of employees. The facility will also provide room for future growth. AMD will continue operating its first facility in the city, using the existing office space for administration, sales, and marketing staffs.
