Sensors Unlimited Inc. Expands Cleanroom

PRINCETON, NJ — Sensors Unlimited, Inc., a supplier of photodiode arrays used in optical performance monitors, has tripled the size of its Princeton, NJ cleanroom facility.

The company plans to unveil the newly expanded facilities at a grand opening scheduled for Jan. 12. Sensors Unlimited has 35,000 square feet of space for technical, administrative and support functions. Technical capabilities include more than 5,000 square feet of ISO Class 4 (Class 10) and ISO Class 5 (Class 100) cleanroom space.

“The demand for reliable, high-speed bandwith is driving Sensor Unlimited’s rapid growth,” said John Sudol, vice president of operations at Sensors Unlimited. “Our newly expanded, world-class cleanroom facilities will enable us to meet our customers’ expectations for product delivery.”

Sensor’s Optical Eyes are InGaAs photodiode arrays that serve as eyes in fibreoptic networks, allowing telecommunications companies to boost capacity, performance and reliability of their fibreoptic networks.

The company’s cleanrooms will allow for device processing and testing of III-V compound detectors and laser. Facilities at the site include photolithography, thermal and e-beam metal deposition, dielectric deposition, p-contact diffusion and annealing, chip dicing and automatic probing. Test facilities include infrared detector testing and automated laser diode characterization in wavelength range 0.65-5 micron.
