July 23, 2001 — SINGAPORE — UMCi Pte. Ltd. is moving ahead with plans to construct a 300mm fab project in Singapore that will feature more than 430,000 square feet of cleanroom space.
The facility, which will be located at the Pasir Ris Wafer Fab park, will be constructed by Kajima Overseas Asia.
“Our plans for UMCi have been progressing at a rapid apce despite the current industry slowdown, demonstrating our firm commitment to Singapore and further adding to UMC’s momentum in leading the development of 300mm wafer manufacturing.,” said Chris Chi, president of UMCi.
The fab will be built in two phases, with a planned capacity of 40,000 wafers per month. It will be UMCi’s third 300mm project.
