Air Liquide to Acquire Balazs Analytical Laboratory

July 25, 2001 — DALLAS, TX — Air Liquide America plans to create a new business unit by combining its analytical laboratory services with Balazs Analytical Laboratory. The deal is expected to close by the end of the month.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The new company will operate from Balazs’ new cleanroom facility in Fremont, Calif. Existing facilities in Dallas and Austin will also remain open. The new entity will combine Air Liquide’s ultra-trace chemical analysis capability with Balazs’ ultra-trace water analysis capability.

“As a customer-driven organization, this agreement is consistent with our commitment to serving the semiconductor industry,” said Rich Jahr, vice president Electronics, Air Liquide America. “The technical challenges the industry faces with 300mm, copper and Low-k new processes will call for more analytical expertise. By integrating our analytical labs and onsite operations service, we are creating a strong technical leader and the most comprehensive offer to the semiconductor industry.”

All current employees of Balazs will be offered employment with the new entity, which is expected to have more than 100 employees.
