TriQuint Expanding Texas Facility

September 25, 2001 — RICHARDSON, TX — TriQuint Semiconductor has reportedly begun work on a 124,000 square feet addition that will nearly triple production space and boost the number of workers employed by the company.

According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, the chip-maker began work on the project last week. Officials say the addition will allow the company to add more than 500 employees over the next three years.

“In this era where tech business is in a downturn, for them to be boldly going ahead with this project is really pretty remarkable,” John Jacobs, vice president of the Richardson Economic Development Council told the newspaper.

The company’s Richardson facility is currently around 100,000 square feet. TriQuint purchased the facility from Micron Technology for $87 million in 2000. It was initially built for TwinStar Semiconductor. Officials hope to have the addition on line by next June.
