May 9, 2001 — AUSTIN, TX — Radiant Photonics has acquired an ISO-certified semiconductor wafer fab in Austin. The facility houses ISO Class 5 (Class 100) and ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) cleanrooms.
Radiant specializes in optical solutions for all-optical telecommunications networks.
“With these new cleanroom facilities, we are moving toward a vertically integrated research and production capability, which allows us to accelerate the design and manufacture of optical components in-house and reduce costs,” said Joe Dixon, COO of Radiant.
The facility will be used to deliver optical components based on the company’s Thermo Optic Integrated Circuit (TOIC). Radiant’s products can be customized to include optical switching and variable optical attenuation technology on a single chip to produce channel equalization switching fabrics.
Officials say the new facility will significantly reduce the company’s production time.
“Vendors in the metro optics space are looking for components manufacturers who can offer cost and time-to-volume advantages,” said Karen Liu, an optics industry analyst. “An in-house cleanroom is important because it gives a company control over yields.”
