Current statistics indicate that the world disk drive industry is concentrated in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, and that these three countries produce over 50 percent of the world`s disk drives. The total installed square footage of disk drive cleanroom space in the three countries is currently 2 million square feet, with industry estimates of 5 million square feet by the year 2000. Total Asian disk drive cleanroom space will be 6.8 million square feet–much of it in Penang–by the year 2000. In Singapore, 45,000 disk drive cleanroom workers will be employed by the year 2000.
CleanRooms/Asia `96 will be held in conjunction with Data Storage/Asia `97. n
