Neenan finishes Quantum`s R&D cleanroom

Louisville, CO–The Neenan Co. completed construction of Quantum Corp.`s 28,000 ft2 of cleanroom space at its new research facility. The new $49 million Quantum facility, 160,000 ft2 overall, will be used for research, development and manufacture of new products. Specialized laboratories, high-bay research areas and a series of cleanrooms that range from Class 10 to Class 10,000 are part of the new facility. The Neenan Company, OZ Architecture, and its subcontractors overlapped design, procurement and construction activities to meet a strict schedule. According to Neenan, various portions of the building could be constructed while other parts were being designed. In addition, hydronic piping was installed by crane. By rescheduling drywall and stud activities and placing a small crane inside the building, the hydronic piping could be installed in longer sections.

The Neenan Co. also developed a schedule that identified the critical path components early in the process and knew exactly what equipment and services would be needed to complete each phase of construction. Says Greg Venn, vice president of the Neenan Co.: “This project truly exemplified The Neenan Company`s `Archistruction` approach to development. We believe that our approach made this project successful.” The other groups involved in the construction team included: Anderson DeBartorlo Pan, Swanson Rink, Martin & Martin, Performance Contracting, Lundquist, Rocky Mountain Prestress, Trautman & Shrieve, Sasco Electric, and Fiori & Sons.
