ISMI to hold 2nd annual symposium on chip-manufacturing productivity

AUSTIN, TX — (MARKET WIRE) — 04/21/2005 — Drawing on acclaim for its first such event, the International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) will hold a second annual ISMI Symposium on Manufacturing Effectiveness October 24-26 at the Hilton Austin Airport.

The public gathering will follow the success of ISMI’s 2004 Symposium, which Dan Hutcheson, CEO of VLSI Research, praised as “a fun surprise…a real working session with much of the focus being on training and sharing new ideas.”

Speaking to a theme of “Accelerating Manufacturing Productivity Through Innovation,” manufacturing experts from the semiconductor industry and ISMI will share their thoughts on such topics as:

— Productivity improvement for equipment and processes
— Data collection and analysis for tool productivity
— Yield modeling and improvement methodologies
— Factory and integrated metrology
— Real-time data collection and management
— Future factory design
— Manufacturing sustainability
— Environment-friendly design and resource conservation
— Statistical techniques for process improvement and control
— Novel approaches to the analysis and visualization of manufacturing
data
— Productivity improvements through advanced process control, run-to-
run, and fault detection and classification

“The new economy for microelectronics is forcing fab owners to seek unprecedented levels of wafer productivity and cost containment,” said Scott Kramer, ISMI director. “Many of the issues inherent in this effort can only be solved by collaboration. The Symposium is part of ISMI’s comprehensive strategy for addressing these issues through member-focused, collaborative planning.”
The symposium also will provide a practical and manufacturing-oriented exploration of the 2005 International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS), with an eye toward how the ITRS can be used to stimulate productivity.

Papers for all facets of the manufacturing side of the industry are welcome for submission to symposium organizers. Interested authors and attendees are invited to contact Mike Schwartz at 512-356-3926 or [email protected], or consult the Symposium website (http://ismi.sematech.org/ismisymposium/index.htm) for more information. Journalists will be admitted to the gathering free of charge.
