The VirTis Co. (Gardiner, NY) and Innovative Technology of Massachusetts have developed VirZone, a new freeze-dryer isolator that functions as a portable cleanroom. The VirZone is designed to be used with VirTis` Genesis Freeze Dryer, in either new or retrofit installations, to allow lyophilization of products in an oxygen-free environment. Trays of materials can be passed directly from the oxygen-free isolator via an “antechamber” or transfer-port into the Genesis Freeze Dryer for processing. Completed product can be protected and removed without effecting the oxygen-free environment. Detachable construction allows the isolator to be removed from the Genesis unit when necessary. VirZone uses stainless steel and Lexan construction and provides an O2-free and H2O-free environment. A gas sterilization model for a Class 100 sterile environment will be available later this year.
