In a move that expands its chip equipment operations, Varian Associates Inc. has agreed to buy select assets related to the high-energy ion implantation equipment product line from Genus Inc. The purchase, which includes a leased manufacturing facility in Newburyport, MA, is valued at $25 million, plus additional payments if specified revenue targets are achieved. The transaction remains subject to governmental reviews as well as the approval of Genus` shareholders. Upon completion, Varian plans to incorporate the purchased assets into its ion implant systems business based in Gloucester, MA. — TGW
