Industrial barrier garment sales approach $300 million
Osterville, MA
According to a recently published report by John R. Starr, Inc., sales of limited-use industrial barrier garments by U.S. manufacturers are approaching $300 million. The report says the growth of this industry, which is about 30 years old, is due primarily to government regulations and increased emphasis on worker health and safety. Currently, more than half a billion square yards of nonwoven materials are consumed by the industry, with spunbonded polypropylene, SMS (spunbonded/melt blown/spunbonded) fabrics and laminates of film and nonwovens making up the rest of garment fabrics used. The report also states that microporous membrane-based garment fabrics are expected to continue to be the fastest-growing garment fabric segment as these fabrics are continually improved and find applications in more and diverse markets.
