Jan. 24, 2005 — JMAR Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: JMAR) established a scientific advisory board to provide guidance on the design, development and application of the company’s compact soft X-ray microscope, an in-lab tool for imaging to sub-50 nanometer resolution.

The advisory board includes the following:

• Gary Mitchell, a researcher at Dow Chemical Co. Mitchell received Dow’s analytical sciences division’s highest internal award for X-ray spectromicroscopy of polymeric materials.
• Hans Hertz, head of the biomedical and X-Ray physics division, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. His group developed a compact X-ray microscope for research in biology and medicine.
• Carolyn Larabell, who holds a joint appointment with UCSF’s anatomy department and with Berkeley Lab’s physical biosciences division. Larabell is recognized as a leading expert in X-ray microscopy for biological applications.
• Mark Ellisman, a professor of neurosciences and bioengineering. Ellisman is also director of the Center for Research on Biological Structure and director of the National Center of Microscopy and Imaging Research at the University of California, San Diego.

JMAR is developing a standard product compact X-ray microscope for 2D and 3D visualization of single cells and polymers at sub-50 nanometer resolution. The microscope will enable research facilities to rapidly carry out X-ray microscopy in their own facilities. JMAR anticipates that the device will be available in 2006.
