May 5, 2004 — The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory awarded Eikos Inc. (Profile, News, Web) an $860,000 contract to develop transparent conductive polymers for military aircraft canopies, according to a news release.
The Franklin, Mass.-based developer of transparent carbon nanotube inks for conductive coatings and circuits said its polymers would help reduce canopy manufacturing and replacement costs for aircraft. Eikos also has conductive coating research under way with the Department of Defense and polymer research projects with NASA.
The work will help Eikos support its primary focus on commercial applications, such as flat panel displays, organic light-emitting diodes and solar cells, the release said.
