June 2, 2004 – IBM has launched two projectors that feature Texas Instruments’ micromirror-based Digital Light Processing technology.
The 2.4-pound M400 is 30 percent smaller than its predecessor and delivers 60 percent better contrast, according to a company news release. The cost is $1,849.
The 4.6-pound E400 projector, more than 35 percent smaller and 30 percent lighter than its predecessor, can be mounted on a ceiling and costs $1,049. DLP’s hundreds of thousands of micromirrors flip 5,000-times a second and reflect light through a spinning color wheel. The system generates images in more than 16-million colors.
