Royal Society addresses nanotechnology

July 29, 2004 — A long-awaited report from the UK’s Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering was published today. 

In addition to addressing a wide range of nanotechnology-related disciplines, the report said that deliberately manufactured nanoparticles posed great health and environmental concerns. It indicated that various steps should be taken to mitigate risks.

The report said that, given appropriate regulation, there was no justification for a moratorium on research as some activists have called for.
