The Burbank, Calif., developer of microdevice manufacturing technology said it took MEMS out of its name because the word is limiting. Whereas the term MEMS is commonly associated with microdevices based on silicon and built using semiconductor manufacturing techniques, Microfabrica’s devices can be made out of metals, built on different substrates and support 3-D flexibility, the release said.
