July 18, 2003 — U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham joined several dignitaries Friday for the official groundbreaking of a $65 million nanoscale research center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, according to a news release.
The Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, the first of five such nano centers planned by the Department of Energy, will offer fabrication and characterization of nanoscale materials to researchers from industry, government and academia. The 80,000- square-foot center is expected to be open by spring 2004, with all equipment and technology installed by 2006.
