DARPA aids development of nanotube electronics

Aug. 14, 2003 — The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded $300,000 to researchers at the University of California, Irvine, to develop small, wireless electronic devices based on carbon nanotubes, according to a news release.

Engineering professors William Tang and Peter Burke seek to develop nanotechnology-enabled radio frequency signal processing components for wireless communication. Their research could lead to networking systems on a single chip, biomedical sensors and environmental monitoring devices.
