nPoint founder receives Tibbetts award

Oct. 1, 2002 — nPoint Inc., a Madison, Wis., developer of motion and control nanopositioners for nanoscale research and manufacturing, announced that its chairman and founder, Max LaGally was awarded a 2002 Tibbetts Award by the Small Business Administration’s office of technology.

The annual Tibbetts awards, now in their seventh year, are named for Roland Tibbetts, who founded the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. A national ceremony to recognize recipients will be held in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 2.

The award is being given to LaGally for founding Piezomax Technologies, now nPoint, and leading the company in developing its nanomotion products. LaGally received more than $3 million in SBIR funds for research and development. He is a professor of materials science and physics at the University of Wisconsin.
