Congress offers $6M for nanotech in Texas

Oct. 16, 2002 — The U.S. Congress is giving $6 million to three Texas universities and the U.S. Air Force to study nanotechnology.

The grant, requested by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) as part of the annual defense appropriations bill, divides the money among the Air Force, Rice University and the University of Texas at Austin and Dallas. At the schools, the money will be used to boost a joint project created in April called the Strategic Partnership for Research in Nanotechnology.

Hutchison said in a written release that the money will allow the Air Force and schools to combine their expertise and capabilities in the emerging technology.
