Transparent Networks moves, expands

July 18, 2002 — A Silicon Valley optical MEMS firm is moving into bigger digs — and a far cry from its start in the CEO’s dining room.

Transparent Networks Inc. said it moved into new headquarters that doubles the size of its previous office space and quadruples its research, development and assembly areas. The move to Milpitas, Calif., from Santa Clara, also puts the facility next to its MEMS foundry.

Janusz Bryzek, Transparent’s president and CEO, said moving during an economic downturn allowed the company to get everything it wanted and save money on rent. When the firm started two years ago, he said, it lost three leases to other companies, which forced him to get things started in his dining room.

Transparent said it is close to selling its LambdaMirror, a 1,200-mirror array photonic switching system with high-voltage, high-density electronics on a single chip. The firm has looming deals with several customers, according to a news release.
