Olympus, PamGene partner on 3-D microarray

July 29, 2002 — Olympus Optical Co. Ltd. and PamGene BV have completed development of a three-dimensional DNA microarray system that could be used in research and diagnostic applications, according to the Ybreo newswire.

In the system, probes of disease-related genes being targeted are fixed onto the 3-D porous structure. The technique boosts speed and accuracy of the gene analysis offered by conventional microarray methods, according to the report.

Olympus is evaluating the technical capabilities of the system in Japan, while PamGene does the same in Europe. Olympus said it seeking further collaborations with universities and research institutions to explore applications for the system.
